Fight Arena
Wait.. how do we win this game again? And is my strategy a smart one, or is it simply reckless? The tournament organizers can help you with the general rules of the game, and give you some strategic advice at the same time.
Welcome to the Fight Arena! Here we give out strategy tips for the thing we do best: winning!
How to win as the good team
The goal of the good team may sound simple. Find out who the demon is and execute them! However, sometimes it’s better to focus on other things first. For instance, who is NOT the demon?
Be proactive
One of the most made mistakes is waiting around for too long. The game rewards interaction with other players more than anything else. Being too cautious in the beginning can often result in a lack of information towards the end. Is someone claiming to be the Tea Lady? Okay, let’s try to execute their neighbours. Is a Gossip asking you to gossip alongside them in the town square? Do it! Is someone claiming to be the Gambler? Tell them your role and ask them to gamble on you. Talk to your fellow players, share information, and make a game plan based on the little information you do have.
Find out what your ‘job’ is
Everyone’s character is different. Meaning that every player is most effective in a different way. Are you the Fool? Your role is to delay the evil team. Probably it’ll be wise to claim to other players that you are a strong information gatherer, so that the Demon will put you in their crosshairs. Are you the Innkeeper? Try to identify high-value townsfolk to protect. Maybe you’re someone’s Grandmother? In that case, it might not be too bad for you to die if the town is unsure who to kill. Your willingness to die can confirm that you’re trustworthy.
Play the long game
You don’t have to kill the Demon on the first day. You don’t have to kill the Demon on the fourth day. Your job is to eventually identify and execute the Demon. This may take a while! Try and get into a situation where there are only a handful of players left alive. This means you have the highest odds of picking the Demon, and you will have had the most time to gather information on everyone’s role.
Find out who is NOT the Demon
Within this game, there’s not a lot of information on the exact identity of the Demon. There is, however, plenty of clues as to who is not the Demon. By confirming players as good, you can whittle down your list of suspects one by one. By process of elimination, you can form a suspicion on the lurking evil in the town.
Engage with dead players
Dead players are often more trustworthy. A lot of dead people die at the hands of the Demon. Ask them their role, and what they’ve learned when they were alive. Befriending dead people has the benefit of them potentially voting alongside you at critical times. It is often the ‘council’ of dead players that make or break the game.
The game might not be over after executing the Demon
The goal of the game is to execute and kill the Demon. However, there’s two possibilities where executing and killing the Demon is not enough. Possibility 1: the Demon is a Zombuul. Zombuuls look like they’re dead, but can still be alive and kicking. It might be a good idea to kill suspicious dead players and extra time just to be sure. Possibility 2: one of the Minions is a Mastermind. Masterminds drag out the game for one more day after it’s supposed to be over. If you suspect a Mastermind is in play, and you’re sure you’ve executed the Demon yesterday, you can either execute the Demon again or not vote at all!
How to win as the evil team
The evil team has the goal of killing off everyone but two players within the town, one of those two being the Demon. If they manage to get the alive player count down to 2 players without the Demon being killed off, the game ends and victory goes to the evil team.
Be proactive
The problem with those pesky Townsfolk is that their abilities are… a little too good. If you sit back and relax, chances are that sooner or later they will have figured out who the evil team is by process of elimination. Getting in there early can throw the good team off track effectively. Maybe you counter-claim the role of a valuable Townsfolk, saying you got contradicting information. Or maybe you want to ’test’ your neighbors by claiming to be the Tea Lady by executing them. Sitting still and being koy about your role won’t benefit you.
If you are in any way uncertain about how the character you’re bluffing as works, ask the storyteller!
If you don’t want to be caught bluffing, don’t speculate on how any of the rules work. Any rule clarification from the storyteller can easily throw your plan in disarray. Always double-check with the storyteller to make sure you fully understand how the character you’re bluffing as works.
Play the long game!
Make a plan, and communicate with your team, there is a serious chance the game will come down to the last day with 3 players left alive.
Even if you have a majority of evil players alive, those pesky dead people might still outvote you.
The good team often gets information about who is good,
Find out what your ‘job’ is.
Similar to the good team, the evil team has several ‘jobs’ to fulfill if they wish to be successful. For instance, not all members of the evil team need to be trusted by the good team. If you’re a Minion, the trust of the good team is not worth much if that means your Demon is getting executed. It’s better t
Spreading false information is a must. Claiming to be the Fool might make the good team trust you, but you might find it difficult to put the good team on the wrong track.
