Pssst! Quiet when entering! The Library contains the information of all characters that can be found in the game. From Townsfolk to Demons, we got it all! Return your books in time though… Otherwise, it might cost you dearly..
Here we have documented all types of characters we have encountered in the village over the years! Not all are currently present though. I wouldn’t know which ones are currently in the village right now…
Categories of characters
Within the game, there are four categories of characters. Townsfolk and Outsiders are on the good team, while Minions and Demons are on the evil team. Each plays a different role within the game
Depending on the amount of players, there is a set distribution of how many characters of each category exist within the game. You can find this distribution in the figure below. Note that some characters can change this distribution! For example, when the Godfather is in the game, there will either be +1 or -1 Outsider. These Outsider replace/are replaced by Townsfolk.
For example, in a 9-player game, there should be 5 Townsfolk, 2 Outsiders, 1 Minion and 1 Demon.
Townsfolk
Townsfolk fight for the good team! They have useful abilities that help their cause. Whether it is an ability that gathers information, protects people, or slows down the evil team in some way, you can count on them!
Grandmother: You start knowing a good player & their character. If the Demon kills them, you die too.
Sailor: Each night, choose an alive player: either you or they are drunk until dusk. You can’t die.
Chambermaid: Each night, choose 2 alive players (not yourself): you learn how many woke up tonight due to their ability.
Exorcist: Each night but the first, choose a player (different to last night): the Demon, if chosen, learns who you are then doesn’t wake tonight.
Innkeeper: Each night but the first, choose 2 players: they can’t die tonight, but 1 is drunk until dusk.
Gambler: Each night but the first, choose a player & guess their character: if you guess wrong, you die.
Gossip: Each day, you may make a public statement. Tonight, if it was true, a player dies.
Courtier: Once per game, at night, choose a character: they are drunk for 3 nights & 3 days.
Professor: Once per game, at night (not the first), choose a dead player: if they are a Townsfolk, they are resurrected.
Minstrel: When a Minion dies by execution, all other players are drunk until dusk tomorrow.
Tea Lady: If both your alive neighbors are good, they can’t die.
Pacifist: Executed good players might not die.
Fool: The first time you die, you don’t.
Outsiders
Outsiders are tricky. They are part of the good team, but their ability usually creates a limitation or disadvantage. For example, the Sweetheart makes someone drunk when they die, and the Moonchild might kill a good player accidentally!
Tinker: You might die at any time.
Moonchild: When you learn that you died, publicly choose 1 alive player. Tonight, if it was a good player, they die.
Goon: Each night, the 1st player to choose you with their ability is drunk until dusk. You become their alignment.
Sweetheart: When you die, 1 player is drunk from now on.
Minions
Minions are on the evil team. They assist the Demon in their evil plot, but they are expendable. Most Minions want to live for some time, but this isn’t critical for the evil team to succeed. Their job is to spread chaos and confusion, and when the time comes, take the blame rather than the Demon themselves.
Godfather: You start knowing which Outsiders are in play. If 1 died today, choose a player tonight: they die. [-1 or +1 Outsider].
Devil’s Advocate: Each night, choose a living player (different to last night): if executed tomorrow, they don’t die.
Assassin: Once per game, at night (not the first night), choose a player, they die, even if for some reason they could not.
Mastermind: If the Demon dies by execution (ending the game), play for 1 more day. If a player is then executed, that player’s team loses.
Demons
Demons are the big bad evil. They are the ones killing at night and they are key for the evil team to succeed. There is only one Demon in play each game. Once the Demon is killed, the game is over.
Zombuul: Each night (except for the first), if no-one died today, choose a player: they die. The 1st time you die, you live but register as dead.
Pukka: Each night, choose a player: they are poisoned. The previously poisoned player dies, and then becomes healthy.
Shabaloth: Each night (except for the first), choose 2 players: they die. A dead player you chose last night might be regurgitated.
Po: Each night (except for the first, you may choose a player: they die. If your last choice was no-one, choose 3 players tonight.
